Summer In Alberta

Summer in Alberta!

The long, sunny nights, the smell of BBQ’s and plenty of mosquitos!  This time of year is so beautiful, but when there is long, hot stretch and the kids and family get cranky, what to do?  The heat can be draining and miserable!

Here are few ideas when you are at your wit’s end with what to do with the kids in the heat!

Visit the spray park!  There a few here in Spruce Grove and Stony.

Pack a picnic and let the kids cool off to their hearts content!  These spots are also next to playgrounds, perfect for when the kids need to dry off.

Visit the library!  The library has amazing things to see, read, do and explore.  The kids can read, color, play, visit the innovation labs, play educational games, and even have a puppet show.  The library also has many programs to be a part of.  Best of all, its air-conditioned!  There are also amazing things to borrow and take home for your family for those rainy days.

Take the kids to Pembina River.  This lazy river is a great place to float down, to enjoy the view, and to keep cool!  It is also a great place to go camping.  This park is only a short drive west of Stony Plain.

Another great spot west of Stony Plain is Wabamun Lake Day Use Area! With a sandy beach, playground, and spots for a picnic, this spot is sure to keep the family cool and entertained.  So here’s to summer and enjoying every minute in the heat!
