As the spring sports season draws to a close, it is a great time to show some appreciation for those who volunteer their time to coach our children.
Here are some interesting facts about volunteering for sport and recreation activities in Canada:
- Sport and recreation organizations make up 21% of the total voluntary/non-profits in Canada (the largest sector)
- Over 70% of these organizations serve local communities
- 1.17 million Canadians volunteer as community coaches, managers, or team helpers
- The average coach dedicates over 140 hours per year to sport
As the number of activities and organizations grow, so does the demand for volunteers. We all want our children to participate in activity, and it wouldn’t be possible without community volunteers.
So in honor of all community coaches in the Tri-region area, we celebrate you and thank you for your dedication!
Do you want to give a shout out to your favorite coach? Send a short story to firstname.lastname@example.org and tell us who they are and why they are so special! We would love to share these stories on the Compass!
